Ames was born Mercedes Grabowski on August 23, 1994, in Nova Scotia, Canada. Her parents worked in the military, causing them to move frequently. She had a brother named James. Ames spent most of her childhood in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She also lived briefly in a group home.

Ames was a cheerleader during her senior year of high school. She worked odd jobs such as a nanny and as a bartender. She even worked in a horse ranch as a horseback trainer. Ames debut into the adult industry in late 2013. She worked with both male and female performers. Her screen credits include 10 Missing, Dirty Talk, Safe Landings, and Naturally Delicious. She received three AVN Award nominations for female performer of the year. Ames was cast as “Audrey” in the film Model for Murder: The Centrefold Killer (2016). August Ames died on December 5, 2017, at the age of 23. Her body was discovered in a public park close to her home in Camarillo, California. The Ventura County Medical Examiner confirmed the cause of death was suicide by hanging (asphyxiation). Ames’ family and friends attributed her death to cyberbullying (she was accused of homophobia). She was also suffering from depression and multiple personality disorder. Ames was 5ft 6in tall and she was of African-American and Polish descent. Her personal net worth was estimated at $500 thousand. She was married to film producer/director ‘Kevin Moore’ from 2016 until her death.
