HOUMA, La. (WVUE) - Police are investigating a home invasion in Houma where the homeowner shot and injured one of the suspects.
According to Houma Police Chief Travis Theriot, the incident happened in the 300 block of Roberta Grove Boulevard on Feb. 20 around 5:15 a.m.
Chief Theriot says the homeowner told responding officers that he shot an alleged intruder in his home. He reportedly heard a noise coming from the first floor of his home and as he went down the stairs to investigate, he was confronted by the suspect and shot. The suspect fled.
Investigators were able to determine the suspect was injured in the shooting. Officers canvassed the neighborhood and identified the suspect as 34-year-old Dex Hebert.
Officers then went to the 1200 block of Gibb Street in an attempt to arrest Hebert. Upon arrival, a woman identified as 26-year-old Tye Corbitt exited the home armed with a handgun. She was taken into custody and reportedly told officers that Hebert was shot in the head and lying on the couch. Officers found Hebert hiding under a mattress and arrested him without incident, Theriot said.
Hebert was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his forehead. Medical personnel determined that his injuries were superficial, and was released back into custody after treatment.
Hebert was booked into jail on one count of simple burglary and on an outstanding warrant for violating parole.
Corbitt was suspected of playing a role in the break-in and also booked into jail on one count of simple burglary, obstruction of justice, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
